General Keyboard Short-Cuts for Word Processors

Become a word processor power-user in the following, very easy, and simple steps. The following keyboard short-cuts work for the majority of word processors:

CTRL + O - Open an existing document
CTRL + N - Start a new document
CTRL + S - Save current doucment
CTRL + P - Quick Print current document

CTRL + X - Cut selected text to the clipboard
CTRL + C - Copy selected text to the clipboard
CTRL + V - Paste selected text from clipboard

CTRL + 1 - Make the linespacing 1
CTRL + 2 - Make the linespacing 2 or Dubbel Space
CTRL + 5 - Make the linespacing 1.5 or one and a half times

CTRL + B - Make text bold in style
CTRL + I - Make text italic in style
CTRL + U - Make text underlined in style
CTRL + A - Select all the text in the current document
CTRL + SHIFT + A - Sets the current text selection to "ALL CAPS"
CTRL + SHIFT + L - Step through the bullet style you want by toggling the L

CTRL + F - Find selected word in a document
F3 - Find next word that was selected
CTRL + R - Find and Replace selected word in a document

Home - Go to the start of a line where the cursor is currenly located
End - Go to the end of a line where the cursor is currently located
Page Up - Move the visible page one screen-view up
Page Down - Move the visible page one screen-view down
Insert - Overwrite the current text without moving the characters forward
Delete - Delete all forward characters from the current cursor position

Some more unknown and under-used keyboard / mouse short-cuts:

CTRL + Home - Move the cursor to the start of a document, character 1 - line 1
CTRL + End - Move the cursor the the end of a document, last character, last line

Double-mouse-click on a single word to select it
Triple-mouse-click to select the whole paragraph
Hold down the left mouse-button, and scroll up or down to custom zoom your document text to your liking
Move the current text selection with your mouse, by holding down the left-mouse button and drag and drop it

How to boot straight into Windows 8 Desktop

If you are looking for a system that can perform tasks much faster before you think, then go for Microsoft Windows 8. As said by the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, the company has replaced the Start Menu with Metro.

When you start Windows 8, a lock screen appears which you have to open before entering your credentials. After that, you need to dismiss the Metro interface if you want to access the desktop. In the retail version of Windows 8, it is trouble-free to force Metro into the background. After disabling the lock screen, Windows 8 directly allows you to log in for reboots.

Rather than Metro: Boot to Windows 8 Desktop

You may have considered that there is no ready-made solution for disabling Metro while booting Windows 8, although the system can be configured by a simple script for every time you run and log in. Simply copy the text below into the notepad and save it as a .bat file.

After you get the script, you can save it anywhere and store it forever. To run the script for log in, you need to create a new task. This can directly be done by the Windows Task Scheduler or by attaching it to the Windows Logon event in the Event Viewer. Checkout steps below:

Search for Windows’ Event Viewer in Metro’s settings (it appears as “View event logs”;).
Click Windows Logs > Application in the left column to get a list of events in the center.
Scroll through the list until you see an information event with the source “Winlogon.”
Right click the Winlogon entry and choose “attach task to this event” to schedule a task.
Name your task anything you want and click next three times to choose your script.

As the script runs, you don’t have to manually dismiss the metro interface.

The Art of Charting

It is very easy to create wonderful and informative charts in a spreadsheet. It all comes down to what data you have and how that data is presented in tabular form inside a spreadsheet worksheet.

The following are examples of charting data in general spreadsheet applications.

To start of we will do a simple sinewave graph chart:

To create the chart, just select your data from A1 down to B18, press on the chart toolbutton Icon and follow the Charting Wizard. Your result should look like the above chart image.

Now for something more interesting, a Gant Chart:

Again, you need only select your data from G2 down to I5. Select the chart button on the toolbar, and follow the Charting Wizard. It could'nt be easier than this.

Now for a really hard one, a Histogram:

To create this chart, you need to select the data range; H6 down to J15. This will then create a Histogram from your data.

Take a look at the formulas used in I6 to I15, you must use the COUNTIF FUNCTION TO CALCULATE YOUR VALUES, to find the frequency of values in your data column - C5 to C29. Please remember when selecting your data for the Histogram chart, you must include a third empty range instead of just the two. The chart wizard must have more than two ranges selected to work properly.

Accel Spreadsheet Starter's Guide

The following information will help you get started in using Accel spreadsheet in no-time, and all other spreadsheets in general.

Let us start with the navigation keys; to move the active cell highlight around, simply use the arrow keys on the right-hand side of your keyboard. For faster movement of pages up and down, you may use the PgDn and PgUp keys. This moves the spreadsheet one screen up or down.

You may also use Shift + PgDn and Shift + PgUp keys to move the screen one page up or one page down. Toggling the PgUp or PgDn keys, keeps the screen moving by one screen length.

To move the active highlight to the first column of any page, just press on the Home button. By pressing the Ctrl + Home button, the active cell highlight moves to the first row and column in any workbook e.g. - A1.

Cell ranges are entered as A1:B5 in the formula edit box.

The cell range can be selected by:

moving the highlight to one corner of the required range
holding down the shift-key (or holding down the left mouse button if you are using a mouse)
moving the highlight to the opposite corener or until all the required cells are highlighted either using the arrow keys if shift is depressed ot the mouse.

Entering data into a spreadsheet:

Each cell in the spreadsheet may have data entered into it. This is simply done by moving the active cell highlight to the cell and typing in one of four types of value: a number, text, formula, or function. The data is only inserted into the cell once you press Enter or move to another cell.

To resize any row height or column width, you only need to move the mouse cursor onto the header borders, and then simply hold and drag the edges to where-ever you need it to be. On the bottom of the screen inside the statusbar, you will see the measured distance in millimeters and inches of the size of the cell. This will also help you in creating very accurate table sizes, if you need this feature.

In spreadsheets the idea is NOT to do the calculation yourself. You want the computer to do it. You also do NOT want to have to change formulas every time that the data they use changes. For example, if a student's mark changes you do not want to have to find and change all the formulae where that mark is used. The formula must be written out referring to the cells in which the data can be found and is typed into the cell where you want the answer to appear. The formula is, therfore: =B5+C5+D5+E5+2*F5)/6

Please note:

* denotes multiplication
/ denotes division
and every and all formula must start with an equal sign =

When formulas are used, the old BODMAS rule applies. Values inside Brackets are calculated first, the Of, Division and Multiplications, the Addition and Subtraction.

All formulae are preceded by an equal sign = in most major spreadsheets including our own, to indicate that this a formula and must cause a calculation to be done. If the equal sign = is omitted, the spreadsheet will decide that this is just some text and will display it in the cell.

In an article this week I read that a coalition of major technology firms from Silicon Valley, with the likes of Yahoo and Facebook, are very unhappy with America's immigration laws. From an article from the slashdot website.

This comes as they no longer wish to employ American citizens but rather want to decrease the work Visum restrictions so that they can pay less for immigrant workers and make more profit. These greedy corporations have already corrupted the American national tax laws as they get tax breaks for employing immigrants rather than American citizens.

Now if this isn't treason towards their own people, then I don't know what is. How can they blatantly tell the American people that their money is good enough to be spent on their goods and services, but they are not good enough to be employed by them. What more do they want? Blood money?...

These greedy corporate bastards, Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, investors and executives, are also planning a virtual "march" on Washington in April. The absolute cheek of these people! Telling everyone there is a major need for qualified workers, yet completely ignoring the much qualified and experienced American workforce itself, just to make a few bucks more on the balance sheets for their bonusses and shareholders!

I would say that President Obama better be very carefull when considering their open letter to him about immigration reform. They are contemplating social disfunction and destruction of the vast numbers of highly skilled and experienced work force currently present in America. Why don't these companies just expand their educational support and organically grow the base of technology employees themselfs in the local market. This would have a much more advantages effect on the economy and social upliftment of everybody in America.

Let us hope the American President know better than to listen to these evil and greedy Silicon Valley Bastards...

Choropleth colour mapping - How to with Accel spreadsheet

We have recently made some huge updates to our magnificent spreadsheet application Accel. We have added instant preformatted table row colouring and now also conditional formatting which includes choropleth value intensity colouring.

Below are two examples on how to use choropleth value intensity colour mapping with Accel spreadsheet.

Very easy, quick, and colourful to use and apply without any problems.

More background information on Choropleth Colour Mapping of Data:

When mapping quantitative data, a specific color progression should be used to depict the data properly. There are several different types of color progressions used by cartographers.

Single hue progression

Single-hue progressions fade from a dark shade of the chosen color to a very light or white shade of relatively the same hue. This is a common method used to map magnitude. The darkest hue represents the greatest number in the data set and the lightest shade representing the least number.

Two variables may be shown through the use of two overprinted single color scales. The hues typically used are from red to white for the first data set and blue to white for the second, they are then overprinted to produce varying hues. These type of maps show the magnitude of the values in relation to each other.

Bi-polar color progression

Bi-polar progressions are normally used with two opposite hues to show a change in value from negative to positive or on either side of some either central tendency, such as the mean of the variable being mapped or other significant value like room temperature. For example a typical progression when mapping temperatures is from dark blue (for cold) to dark red (for hot) with white in the middle. When one extreme can be considered better than the other then it is common to denote the poor alternative with shades of red, and the good alternative with green.

Complementary hue progressions are a type of bi-polar progression. This can be done with any of the complementary colors and will fade from each of the darker end point hues into a gray shade representing the middle. An example would be using blue and yellow as the two end points.

Blended hue color progression

Blended hue progressions use related hues to blend together the two end point hues. This type of color progression is typically used to show elevation changes. For example from yellow through orange to brown.

Partial spectral color progression

Partial spectral hue progressions are used to map mixtures of two distinct sets of data. This type of hue progression will blend two adjacent opponent hues and show the magnitude of the mixing data classes. When the two colors chosen match the solar spectrum that shows the greatest magnitude.

Full-spectral color progression

Full spectral progression contains hues from blue through red. This is common on relief maps and modern weather maps. This type of progression is not recommended under other circumstances because certain color connotations can confuse the map user.

Value progression

Value progression maps are monochromatic. Although any color may be used, the archetype is from black to white with intervening shades of gray that represent magnitude. According to Robinson this is the best way to portray a magnitude message to the map audience. It is clearly understood by the user and easy to produce in print.

To use these new features, just select the data you wish to colour enhance, then on the main menu select "Format >> Colour Stripes" for solid and light striping filling, or select "Format >> Colour and White Stripes" to add a solid colour and white stripe filling:

There have been a lot of comments and reviews describing our software {SSuite Office} as bloatware all around the internet lately. I guess these people don't know the definition of computer terms as well as they have thought they did.

Let me inform everyone here and now on what bloatware really is!

According to the official definition; Software that has lots of features and requires considerable disk space and RAM.

Let's start with the open source alternatives like OpenOffice and LibreOffice which are both hailed as decent software for any computer.

Well here it is then...

The install requirements for both of these open source office suites, and let me remind you this is only for five applications...

At least 650 Mbytes available disk space for a default install (including Java{200MB}) via download. After installation and deletion of temporary installation files, OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice will use approximately 440 Mbytes disk space.

Now lets compare everything together...

Download Size:

OpenOffice download size: 130 MB
LibreOffice download size: 204 MB
SSuite Office - Excalibur Release: 41 MB

Installation Size:

OpenOffice install size: 650 MB
LibreOffice install size: 650 MB

Beware of the Pitfalls of the Windows RT Surface Tablet!

I must inform you that the latest Windows RT Surface tablet does not support any of the latest Windows x86 platform software.

The Windows RT Surface tablet does not run any legacy or new software made for the Windows WIN32 platform. Any and all software for this tablet can only be purchased from Microsoft's AppStore.

There are no {including freeware} developers creating any software applications for this platform, as the restrictions are too tight to handle. Please make sure you know which Windows tablet your are buying at the store counter. You must ask for the x86 or Windows 8 version, otherwise they will sell you the RT version. This platform is totally useless, as I have mentioned before, as there is no freeware available for it.

Any and all software for this platform is only available as retail versions, which must be purchased at great $cost. This makes the RT platform a totally closed eco-system{Complete Vendor-Lockin}. There are no compatibility to any other platform, whether Apple, Linux, or even the other Windows systems. :mad:

I have already had very unhappy people contact me about software for this platform, and I must inform you that we {and almost all developers} are not supporting this platform.

So beware what you buy!!! - Ask for the Windows 8 - x86 version.

What to do with your documents.

As most people know, when receiving a document in Microsoft's proprietary format such as docx and xlsx, you need the original MS Office suite to open these documents.

Forget about the other clones or open source software and office suites, they all use the same cracked format versions which are not 100% compatible with the original Microsoft formats.

Well, I don't know about you, but I am not willing to pay $100-$500 just to open a document. So... the easiest way is to download Microsoft's FREE document viewers. As surprising as this is, they are indeed very much free to be downloaded. 8)

Here you can download them all - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Viewers:

The other problem most people have is when installing a software application and it reassigns a document format to itself, like rtf or the doc format that is being used by your favourite app already in use.

To fix this, there is a simple procedure to follow, just right-click on the document you want to change and select the "Open With" option. The popup menu will then list all the applications capable of opening your document, just select your application of choice and that is it, fixed.

If your favourite application is not listed, select the "Choose Program..." option on the bottom of the menu selection. Out of the very extensive list, you will be able to get your application selected.

So to open any and all software application documents, whether supported or unsupported, the above information will get you reading all your important documents in no time.

Calibrating your LCD screen for correct colour.

It has been said that some of our software's graphical-user-interfaces are too light in colour.

But I have to respectfully disagree with them. To get the right image colours on your LCD monitor/screen, you first need to calibrate it to your eyes liking.

To do this you need to go to the following website to accomplish this. Screen Calibration

And if I may suggest the following settings for best viewing and user experience of your LCD monitor, if you have ATI Catalyst Control Center installed on your computer.

Best settings for viewing:

Before calibration:

Screen Card Settings: { Radeon 9550 AGP }

Gamma: 0,5 >> 0.8 << 3.5 = 0.8 points on the gamma scale

Brightness: -100 >> -40 << 100 = -40 points on the brightness scale

Contrast: 0 >> 120 << 200 = 120 points on the contrast scale

Monitor Settings: { LG Flatron W2243S }

Gamma: 0

Brightness: 75

Contrast: 80

After I calibrated my screen card: { Radeon 9550 AGP }

Gamma: 0,5 >> 1.0 << 3.5 - Set your screen to 1.0 points on the gamma scale

Brightness: -100 >> 0 << 100 - Set your screen to 0 points on the brightness scale

Contrast: 0 >> 100 << 200 - Set your screen to 100 points on the contrast scale

Monitor Settings: { LG Flatron W2243S }

Gamma: -50

Brightness: 70

Contrast: 70

The above settings are what I currently use. It may be different for everybody else, but I found these to give me the best colour and viewing pleasure on my computer.

Rage Against the Machine.

Today I discovered my $1000 Lexmark printer has a kill-switch.

I have been using this printer for the past year to print all my important work. Then when the ink-cartridges ran empty, I did what any right-minded person does; I got myself generic replacement ink-cartridges. So for the past month I have been printing on generic non-original cartridges with a very stern warning from my printer letting me know I am printing without, and I quote “You are printing with Non-Original installed Cartridges”. :mad:

What is it to IBM with what I print with! This morning I was printing as usual, when suddenly my printer decides to empty my black cartridge all over any work being currently printed. Do whatever I may; it keeps wiping out any printed work.

Now this is the absolute high point of corporate greed... “If you don't use our very expensive ink-cartridges, then fuck you, you will print no further.”

Now this is where I get almost insane with anger and despair, why would they go so far as to stop me from printing on a machine that I bought with my hard earned money, and then tell me that if you don't use our expensive parts, then there is no way in hell you get to use the printer any further.

But I guess they will get theirs in the end, I hope, this “We must make as much money as possible from the consumer” business model must stop. We the people just can't keep spending ourselves bankrupt just to please the greedy global corporations.

So to wrap it up, I decided to make a nice pot-plant from my very expensive printer, just to get some value out of the dam thing! :P

- There is always someone else that is smarter, stronger, bigger, and richer than you.
- If you know the fundamentals of any one thing, then you can do everything possible with it.

Why does nobody read anymore?

Why is it so difficult for people to read instructions given to them in plain sight?

Do we blame the school system? is it the short attention span of people?, caused by today's instant everything on the net syndrome?

I just don't know, but these people should stop complaining when things don't go their way. I can't tell you how many comments, articles, and reviews I have read where the authors just don't get it about our software. Our software is completely free for download, free of hidden tricks and underhanded advertising, and free of third-party software installations without consent.

If only they read the installation instructions given to them in plain sight, written clearly and concise on every web page below every software application or office suite's description. I don't even want to mention about the very nicely written "Read Me" files that accompany each and every download.

Why is it so difficult for people to read anything these days?

I just don't know!

How to update your old Windows XP system to Windows 7 / 8

Here is how you could update your old Windows XP system to Windows 7 or 8 without even spending a cent. Even old or cracked versions can be converted. Even that old low memory XP system can be updated/transformed into Windows 7 or 8.

You will need the following to begin the transformation:

DirectX 9.0c Redistributable June 2010 - Free for download {95.63 MB}
Microsoft .NET Framework (x86) 2.0 Final - Free for download {22.40 MB}
Windows 7 Transformation Pack 5.1 - Free for Download {35.39 MB}
Windows 8 Transformation Pack 7.0 - Free for download {56.80 MB}

To start the transformation, download all of the above software packs. When finished, start in sequence to run each setup file, begin with the DirectX setup, then move to the .NET 2.0 update. When this is complete, run the transformation pack last. :)

Now that you have installed all the update packs, restart your computer and watch as your old Windows XP system turns into Windows 7 or 8 without costing you anything. 8)

If your are running Windows 95 up-to Windows XP on your computer, you will not have any problems installing and running all our desktop and portable software. Microsoft created these operating systems perfectly and they run perfectly too with our applications.

Installation instructions for Windows Vista / 7 / 8:

If on the other hand you have Windows Vista / 7 or 8 installed, you may experience some difficulty depending which software you are installing. Most of our installshield software will not have any problem running on your system, as long as you run them as an administrator. Simply right-click on the setup executable and select the "Run as Administrator" option in the popup shortcut menu. That's all you need to do.

If you are running one of the portable database or spreadsheet software{QT Calc} applications, you will have to run them with administrator rights. Again, you will only need to right-click on the executable or icon and select the "Run as Administrator" option. You will only need to do this once.

Desktop Database Software:

As for running desktop database software on Windows Vista / 7 and 8, you will need to make the administrator rights permanent.

You will need to do the following:

- Find the application executable or shortcut icon and right-click on it and select "Properties..." - {at the bottom of the popup menu}

- Go to the Compatibility tab and change the following settings:

- At the bottom, select the "Run this program as an administrator". This will grant you access to run the applications successfully.

- Press on "Apply" and then press "OK". The database program should run now.

The above instructions are only necessary for MonoBase, Invoice Master, and the main start-up menu for the Blade Runner office suite.

64 Bit Windows Systems:

If you have a 64 bit Windows system, you will need to adjust the database path for Invoice Master, as the program file's folder has a different description - C:\Program Files x86\ instead of the usual path C:\Program Files\ for 32 bit systems.

To correct this problem, simply do the following:

1. Go to your control panel and open the "BDE Administrator" - {classic view}

2. Select the "Database" header to list all the databases

3. If your application is listed, make sure it's path is correctly shown on the right-hand side

4. To change the path to the correct one, simply double-click on the path shown and find the database folder where you installed it.

The correct path for Windows 64 bit systems must be the following: C:\Program File x86\AppName\Data

That is it, if you follow the above instructions, everything will run smooth as can be. 8)

Please also remember to read the "Read Me" file after you have installed these software. :roll:

I have recently discovered some new hidden codes in the RTF structure documentation to enable complete justified text in our rich text editor, found in all our word processors. It is also now possible to enable inter-character spacing according to desired settings. I have also added new pages and envelope sizes to the print previews in QT Writer Express, WordGraph, and WordGraph HD. Now it is possible to print custom graphics and text on envelopes from inside our word processors.

I have also added in WordGraph HD the special character effects found in MS Word. You should know them all well, Las Vegas Lights, Sparkle text, Marching Black/Red Ants, Shimmer etc. All these effects can now be added from inside WordGraph HD. They are however hidden codes, and may only be seen in MS-Word or MS-Word viewers. These effects will be reflected in the status bar on the bottom of the pages. So keep an eye out for the descriptions. Download MS-Word viewer for free, and have a look at these effects hidden in your rich text documents.
